wellness design with a difference

What sets us apart as wellness design consultants? Our work is informed by wellness real estate and healthy building practices, an area we focus on specifically as Biofilico. We bring in-depth knowledge of how indoor plants; natural circadian rhythms; off gassing volatile organic compounds (VOCs); thermal comfort and natural light can all have a direct impact on our daily lives through the built environments we spend our time in.

yoga studio design

Just as a gym design can attract gym fanatics and the uncommitted, so the interior environments of yoga studios play a crucial role in enhancing their appeal. Our approach is to design flexible spaces for holistic human health practices, be that yoga, pilates, stretching or barre.

By harmoniously combining aesthetic elements with functional aspects in our scheme, from natural materials to purified air and natural light, we create yoga rooms that inspire and facilitate mental and physical wellbeing.

spa room design

Recovery rooms inspired by biohacking and longevity concepts provide a point of differentiation in an increasingly competitive spa design marketplace where a massage treatment room, jacuzzi and steam room are no longer enough to excel.

We work with infrared sauna, ice bath and float tank manufacturers to create custom longevity rooms and recovery rooms. These wellbeing practices bring anti-aging, stress relief and muscle recovery benefits to users.

recharge room design

A meditation room, quiet room or zen room, are designated wellness spaces designed to promote relaxation via the physical surroundings. This can include biophilia to bring nature indoors, non-toxic materials and a holistic approach to promote sleep quality (go power naps!).

These rooms are specifically designed to provide the ideal physical surroundings for meditation, small group workshops, or mindfulness-based activities. A quiet room is also a way for the wellness industry to enter a residential or office environment by creating spaces for mental wellbeing.

peace. quiet. recharge.

  • The interior design of meditation rooms can play a role in promoting wellbeing and mental health for residents.

A well-thought-out wellness design here not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the meditation room but also directly impacts the effectiveness of one's meditation practice.

The primary goal of designing a meditation room is to create a serene and tranquil space that allows the individual or group to easily focus and relax, disconnecting from the outside world not matter how briefly.

Incorporating elements such as natural materials, biophilic design, calming color schemes, healthy materials, and appropriate lighting can significantly contribute to achieving this objective.

By carefully considering the various design aspects of a meditation room, we create an environment that fosters a strong connection between the mind, body, and spirit, ultimately leading to improved mental health and overall wellbeing.

  • The implementation of wellness design strategies for quiet rooms in offices, co-working spaces and co-living contexts contributes to a wellbeing strategy by creating a haven that fosters tranquility.

Such spaces are designed to offer respite from the chaos and stress of big city living with a focus on comfort, as designers we incorporate elements that evoke serenity and calmness such as nature, healthy materials and plants.

A well-designed quiet room combines aesthetics with functionality, striking a balance between visual appeal and practicality.

  • Similar to a wellness studio, a wellness room is a dedicated space for mind-body practices.

Whereas a studio suggests a more organized space, perhaps with group classes or virtual trainer classes, a wellness room is more focused on self-practice.

Again though, by way of wellness design principles we’d expect to see evidence of natural light, biophilic design to replicate a natural environment, non-toxic healthy building materials, enhanced indoor air quality for cognitive function, smart lighting technology for various ambiance settings, all make up the levers we are pulling as designers.

  • Wellness spaces is a broad term to describe the increasingly wide range of in-house facilities geared towards promoting physical and mental health in a co-living, residential development or hotel.

As you might expect, wellness room designs can and we’d suggest should leverage wellness design principles such as healthy building materials, smart lighting technology, enhanced indoor air quality, an eco cleaning supply policy and biophilic design to bring the outside world in.

  • When designing a wellness studio we are looking to reflect the value of the business / brand behind it, whilst creating a sanctuary for relaxation and rejuvenation.

Our designs often feature elements that evoke a sense of tranquility and harmony.

From the choice of color palettes and lighting to the selection of ergonomic equipment.

As the available floor space is often limited, we have to consider every detail to create a cohesive room that promotes holistic wellness.

By incorporating natural elements, such as plants and water features, we can bring a sense of balance and enhanced connection to nature, further elevating the overall wellbeing of clients.

  • Our approach to the wellness design of yoga studios is to blend aesthetics with functionality, considering equally aspects like lighting, storage, acoustics, decor and spatial organization.

By incorporating elements from nature, such as plants and natural materials, yoga studios can create a tranquil ambiance that facilitates relaxation and mindfulness.

Additionally, the choice of color palette, flooring, and furnishings should reflect the core values of the practice, promoting harmony and balance within the space.
